After Tombstone we headed east and made it to a new state....New Mexico.
For Brad and I, it felt like the trip was even more real because it’s a state that seems further away from home. Brad has been here a few times but I have never been.
We planned to stop in Lordsburg just because it was a few hours out of Tombstone and closer to our next destination, but not too far. While we were driving Brody noticed a sign or something for a ghost town and said he wanted to go to one. I looked up ghosttowns in New Mexico and there are quite a few but most of them are only 70 miles from a major city. When you are trying to maximize your time miles outside of a city is a long ways away. But I did discover that there was a ghosttown only 8 minutes away from the KOA we were staying in. So on our way out of "town" we decided to head to Shakespeare Ghost town.
Part of the adventure is the unknown and when we were driving down the dirt road to get to this "town" we weren't even sure if MARV was going to make it. Thankfully it wasn't too long and MARV did great.
It was very windy and a little cold.
The kids are standing on main street. At one point this town had 3,000 people in it, mostly men, some women and no known children.
Brad in the saloon.
This was part of their restaurant and hotel.
This picture was actually from the beginning of the tour. Our tour guide had a lot of stories to tell and honestly at first they were really long. I wasn't sure if we would make it through the tour.
Since it was a silver mining town this is where the miners took their silver to test the authenticity. They wouldn't get paid for it here but they were able to test it.
The Blacksmith shop was one of Brad's favorite places in this tour. He took a lot of pictures.
When all was said and done, the kids had a great time and really liked this tour. (I thought it went on a little long but it doesn't really mater if the kids enjoyed it).
