Two years ago I was able to run the Hood to Coast Relay which is one of the most popular relay races in the world starting on Mt. Hood and ending in Seaside, Oregon. Last year this team decided to run the inaugural Hood to Coast in Washington. Unfortunately I wasn't able to go last year.
But thankfully they asked if I could join the team this year. I knew Brad had a fishing trip planned so I checked with him and this weekend was open so I was in!
The Tuesday before the race Brad called to tell me that he had messed up the dates of his fishing weekend and it was actually the same weekend. And he was leaving the next day. (Wednesday).
Thankfully, Fafa & Grammy came to the rescue and were able to come stay with the kids while both Brad and I went on our own adventures. (Honestly, if I didn't get to go you probably would have found me in a place for exhausted, overwhelmed mothers. Is there a place like that?)
Anyways, I drove down with one of my teammates on Friday afternoon. We met at our hotel in Shelton. Then we decorated our van.
We woke up VERY early on Saturday morning. 3:15. I didn't sleep well so maybe got 2 hours of sleep. Then the relay started.
I was the 4th and 10th leg of a 12 leg race.
I went out too fast because I had so much adrenaline in me. It hurt me when I got to mile 4.5. But I finished the leg.
My second leg was just under 8 miles. 7.74. I didn't do as well as I would have liked but I also didn't train for this race as well as I would have liked so it wasn't a big surprise.
This is me jumping at the end. Yes, I had some energy but that energy was mostly because I was D-O-N-E!
Our team at the finish.
Our team for the classic jumping at the beach photo.
Even though I was exhausted from a lack of sleep and running almost 14 miles within 8 hours it was what this tired momma needed. It sounds crazy, but it was so fun! I hope I get to do it again next year.
