Colt's 1/2 birthday

Yesterday Colt turned 6 months. It's hard to believe he has already been part of our family for 6 months. He continues to grow and is a happy, smily baby. Although I will admit he is a momma's boy. He is enamored and fascinated by Brody and loves watching, smiling and laughing at everything Brody does even when Brody takes his toys.

We took him to his 6 month check up earlier this week and were surprised to learn that he was off the charts in his weight. Unfortunately, he was off the charts on the low end...meaning he is a lightweight. These were his measurements.

Length: 25 1/4" (10%)
Weight: 12# 11 1/4 oz.
Head: 16 3/4" (20%)

We are trying our best to fatten him up.

In the last few days Colt has learned how to sit up. He still topples over every now and then but we know he is getting stronger and stronger every time.

Window Seat

One of my favorite things about our house is our window seat. I am always talking about making a window seat cushion so that I can sit and read a book. While I have not checked that off my list of things to do I am happy to report that our window seat is now getting lots of use.
My sister Jenny talked about how George can sit and play with his cars for hours, lining them up and moving them and lining them up again. It seems like Brody is now in that stage. He is having lots of fun playing with his cars and I'm always wondering what is going through his mind. What is even more fun to watch is seeing how much fun Colt has watching his big brother. It won't be long before they are playing together.

Happy Birthday Mommy!

Today was my birthday. 31 years old today. I never know what to think of them. I would love for the whole world to stop and celebrate with me but I also don't want to get too excited only to be let down by unmet expectations. (it goes back to some childhood birthday parties). Anyways, I had another wonderful birthday thanks to my awesome husband who always makes sure I feel extra special on my birthday. So here is a quick recap of the day.

Brad took the day off of work to spend with me. It was so nice to have an extra hand with the boys. I didn't feel rushed to get ready before the boys were up. As the boys were getting their breakfast Brad took Brody upstairs only to return with my present. (See post below) What a wonderful and unique birthday gift.

My friend Traci came over with her son to watch my boys for the morning. My dad and sister came to watch the boys in the afternoon.

Brad and I packed up our ski gear and headed for the mountains. (We are very thankful for Ganesa who was able to get us some skiing passes) Our trip to the mountain could not be completed without a stop at Starbucks for a beverage to warm us up.

It was a beautiful day for skiing with a sunny sky and some fresh snow. While I was a little rusty and at times a little nervous Brad was very patient and waited and waited and waited for me as I made my way down the runs. As luck would have it we ran into this mountain man who was operating one of the lifts.

It's my brother, Jason! We were able to chat with him which was especially good since we haven't seen him for a few weeks.

After my legs started to get tired we decided to call it a day. We made another trip to Starbucks on our way home. Hey, it's my birthday....so I can have 2 starbucks in one day. We spent some time at Starbucks working on a crossword puzzle (something we enjoyed doing before we had kids). Unfortunately, we had to head back home since Aunt Jessie was trying to stall a hungry Colt.

Our day ended with a nice dinner at Red Robin. My mom and I have the same birthday. It is always fun to celebrate with her. What is even more fun is the great deal we get at Red Robin. If you sign up for their birthday club then you get a free hamburger the week of your birthday. Since my mom is always looking for deals we can never pass this up.

When we got home I had a package in my mailbox and a birthday card. A great way to end the day.

The best part of my birthday was spending time with my family and spending some good alone time with my best friend Brad. I know God has some special things planned for me this year and it's already off to a great start!

A few pictures from my birthday!

Sorry Bachelor Fans!

I now have to confess that I am a "fan" of the reality show The Bachelor. I really don't like to admit this because I really can be doing something better than spending 2 hours on a Monday night watching some guy try to find his wife. It started the very first episode when I was folding laundry and just needed some type of noise to distract me. Instead of turning on the radio I turned on the tv and started watching the first episode. Before I knew it Brad was sitting there watching it too. We rarely watch tv so I was surprised that Brad joined me. After laundry was finished I decided we should turn it off, but Brad insisted that we continue to watch it. It would be a date. Well, we are a little hooked now, especially since we have friends, who are friends of friends of Jason's...or something like that. In one of the early episodes Jason took Stephanie to Lego Land. He gave her a rose but did not give her a real rose and instead gave her a Lego rose. For my birthday Brad searched and searched to find a Lego rose and had no success. He was ambitious and last night went with Brody to the Lego store where he created this beautiful rose and vase. Sorry Bachelor fans....this Bachelor is taken!

Jeep Rides

Sometimes it is hard to tell who is having more fun in our house, Brody, mommy or daddy. One of Brad's favorite things to do is to take Brody in his jeep. Even if it's a process to move Brody's car seat Brad will do it. When we arrived back at the airport from our trip to Colorado we had to take both cars. Since Brad had his jeep he wanted Brody to ride home with him. It was past midnight and I was sure Brody was going to fall right back asleep. He didn't. Instead he stayed awake and listened to his favorite jeep music Santana. If you ask Brody what he likes to listen to he will tell you "Santana" and what song he likes he responds with "oye como va". As the mom it really melts my heart to watch Brody get so excited and to see Brad truly enjoy his son.

These are pictures of one of the first jeep rides when Brody was 16 months. In one of the pictures you can see Brody signing more, more, more.

Exersaucer & Rolling Over

Colt has had a lot of action these past few days. Brad took the exersaucer out of storage. We dusted it off and wiped it down and put Colt in it. He LOVES it and I think I LOVE it more. It's a great place to put him while I am playing with or cleaning up after Brody. It's nice to know he is being entertained. Colt also rolled over from his back to his tummy for the first time (2 days ago). He hasn't really done it since but he's definitely continuing to work on it.

George's 4th Birthday

We had the privilege and opportunity to travel out to Denver to celebrate our cousin George's 4th birthday. ("We" refers to mom, Brody & Colt. Brad was on a business trip and then had to work an extra long weekend....and we are truly thankful for the hard work he does.) Papa Bob, Grandma Shari, Aunt Jessie, and Gunner joined us for our flight. It was nice to have an extra hand to help out with our 20 minute security check. We had nothing wrong with us, it just took us that long to get everything unloaded and shoes off and to walk through the security gate with 4 adults and 3 kids. Thankfully we made it and survived the plane ride with only a five minute time span when both Brody & Colt were having meltdowns. Colt was getting tired and Brody was VERY tired.

Our week was filled with playing and hanging out. Brody loved playing with his cousins and was very generous with all of his hugs. Most of the time his cousins would hug him back and if they didn't Brody kept on hugging them. The highlight of the week was George's Thomas the Train birthday party. Aunt Jenny did a wonderful job creating games and ensuring that everyone at the party was having a fun time.

We were sad to leave and are more excited to see our cousins again....hopefully sooner rather than later.
