Brody's preschool had a field trip to PCC (a nearby natural grocery store). I arranged for Ollie (and possibly Colt) to spend that time at our neighbors so that I didn't have to chase a 2 year old around. About 30 minutes before we were supposed to leave I heard Brody crying in the other room. My first evaluation of his cry made me think him and Colt were in a fight. As I listened a little more I knew even if it was a fight that Brody did at least get hurt. I walked into the other room to see Brody by himself and he said his head was hurting. Upon closer inspection I saw that he was bleeding. One of the other benefits of Brad working from home was that I was able to call for him. He came downstairs and took care of the bleeding. I know I can panic a bit more so it was nice to have his calm presence.
We knew it wasn't emergency room worthy but still made a call to the doctor. Brad was able to stop the bleeding and encouraged us to still go on the field trip. Brody was a little clingy at first but quickly warmed up to all the stuff they were able to see. I only took one picture of him in front of the cheese section.
The timing worked out for me to take Brody to the doctor. (fortunately my neighbor watched the other boys for part of this time). I was just at the doctor's office for Ollie's 2 year check up the day before, so I told Dr. Dave that I missed him and wanted a reason to come back.
He looked at Brody's head and determined he needed 2 staples. Unfortunately Brody heard the word staples and started to cry. The novocaine numbed it and he didn't feel a thing. He was fine as soon as we left. You can barely see the staples in this picture.
This was Brad's description of how Brody's injury occurred.
Brody was lining up some cars on a window sill. The sill was too high for his liking so he decided to stand on a rubber bouncing ball...(the kind you sit on with a handle on the top)... A re-enactment/learning lesson proved that this was a poor elevation technique with a "high risk" rating and strong likelihood for undesirable consequences. Further investigation leads us to believe he hit his head on the corner of a fire truck. The incident did not keep him from participating in his preschool's field trip to PCC this morning :)
Never a dull moment around here!
