Brad and I have talked for a while about taking our whole family backpacking. "When the kids are older..." Well, they aren't all at the perfect age but they are getting close so we decided to make it a trial run this year. We asked for some input and one of our friends suggested Lake Hyas. It's a 2 1/2 mile flat hike in. He didn't warn us about the 12 mile pothole road we would have to drive on to get there. But it's all part of the adventure.
Our friends, the Hodos, came with us too. It was nice to have another family to hang out with and also to help us out sometimes.
These are just pictures from hiking in and around the camp.
We crossed between 25 - 30 streams or rivers. Most of them were easy to step over but there were a few where we needed to use some team work to help the kids across (ok and maybe some teamwork for the adults too)
The Lake was cold and it actually had a little current blowing the water to one side so the kids didn't play in it for too long. But it did give them something to do for a little while.
On our second day we went for a family hike. The kids turned around and Jen and I snuck in an extra twenty minutes of hiking. I always enjoy my time with her.
Old Man's Beard. This is a good fire starter. The kids have learned this by watching survival shows with Brad. They found lots of Old Man's Beard out here.
Brody & Trey
Only a few months apart. Brody is older. Trey is taller.
