Maid of the Mist

Niagara Falls wasn't originally on my list of places to see.   Mostly because I felt like it was an overhyped tourist trap.   But when we were talking about our itinerary Brad said we have to go there especially since we will be up there.    I'm glad we balance each other out.

Brad signed us up for a tour that included a few different fun things.

We started off by going to the Maid of the Mist.  This is the most popular tourist attraction at Niagara Falls and has been around for a long time.

Even on sunny days you will get wet since the boat takes you to the base of the waterfall.  This was the first day of their season so we are lucky we weren't here any earlier.  They also provide these ponchos which actually did a pretty good job keeping us mostly dry.

The boat starts with the American Falls and Bridal Veil Falls which is right next to it.

Cheese and Happy Hour

After Woodstock we went to an RV park near Saratoga Springs.   We bought some cheese in Vermont and Brad poured some beer to have it all for happy hour.   The kids ate half of it and we have decided we need to buy a bigger block of cheese next time.

Passenger Seat

The passenger seat is a big deal on this trip.  Most of the time we have a rotation where each kid gets to sit in it for 15 minutes.

Ollie enjoys it so much he sits up there with his robe on.

Sleeping

Darby and Bo have shared a bed this whole trip.  They have only had one fight big enough to cause Bo to sleep on the floor in the other room.  (I think he learned that the bed is still cozier).    I love that they have this as part of the trip.

I also got this cute picture with Bo's finger in his ear.

Killington, VT

After Woodstock we took the google maps route towards Niagara Falls.   We didn't really know where this was taking us so Brad was pleasantly surprised when we drove through Killington Resort.  Apparently it is a well known ski resort.  He pulled over to take a picture so he could send it to his skiing friends.    These unplanned surprises are such a great part of this trip.

Woodstock

Our next stop after Kennebunkport was Woodstock, Vermont.   This came highly recommended by Brad's cousin and our new friend Nathan.   It was a great way to see Vermont and we tried our best to imagine the trees with their fall colors because we heard that was the best time to go.

When we are driving we have to watch out for these covered bridges.  This one was in town and we didn't have to drive through it although we think MARV would have been fine.

We stopped in town for lunch at one of the few places that was open.  I think they are just getting ready for their tourist season.

Brad took this picture.

Notice the plaid shirts Darby & Ollie have.   They are from the Vermont flannel company store which as you can imagine is quite a store.  It makes you want to be in your flannel pajamas.

Wiki Sticks

The kids got these Wiki Sticks with the kid's menu in Kennebunkport.   It was a new way to pass the time on our drive.
