Our boys have small piggy banks that they have for random coins and dollar bills. They are always counting their money and saving it for something. We hardly ever take them somewhere to spend it.
Rewind to a few weeks ago when we were at Brody's basketball game. The boys wanted something from the vending machine and as per usual my response was "well, you can buy it with your money." I thought they would forget about it.
Nope, not Ollie. Before we went to Brody's last basketball game Ollie grabbed his money jar so he could buy something. Colt collected coins and put them in a plastic bag.
As luck would have it the vending machine only took dollar bills and not coins. Colt was devastated. I had too many kids to manage to try and hunt down dollar bills for Colt. Instead I told him he could buy a cookie at the Starbucks drive thru. (yes, there was a personal motive in there). We ended up not going to Starbucks since I had to feed Bo. But Brad took him there later that night.
He documented the whole thing with his camera phone.
Colt was so excited to spend his money.
Showing off his coins.
Counting his money.
Paying the money to the Barista
He originally was going to buy a cookie, but decided on this pretzel instead.
Brad said the most exciting part for him was getting the change back, all four cents. He felt like he had earned money in the whole exchange.
As cute as this is, it makes me a little sad when the boys experience these "grown up" things.
