Fishing

One of the main things Brad wanted to do on this trip was go fishing. We had booked a guided fishing trip while we were in Cooper Landing.  One of the guides had called in sick so they asked if we could change our time from the morning to the afternoon.   Since we did this we also moved our location a little further west so we would be closer to Homer (our next destination) when we finished.

We met them at the Kasilof river.  They got us all suited up in our waders and drove us to our launching area.

We then got in boats and went down the river about 20 minutes.  It was beautiful and peaceful.  Not another person in sight (except our own group).

They found a spot for us to fish and started getting us ready to go.

Brad, Darby & Bo were around the corner in a cove.  This was because the river was flowing pretty fast and they wanted to make sure Darby & Bo were stable.

Although Brad enjoyed being with Darby & Bo he stayed with them the whole time and didn't get a chance to fish where we were fishing until the last 10 minutes. So overall it wasn't a great fishing experience for him.

Darby & Brad were the only two who did not catch a fish. The rest of us were able to catch something.

Quartz Creek Campground

After Seward and the Exit Glacier we drove to the Quartz Creek Campground in Cooper Landing. It was a beautiful campground and one we wish we could have stayed at longer because it felt like we were really camping and not just in an RV park.

The creek was nearby and we went down to check it out.  Jeff, Tracey & Chase rented waders and went fishing in the river.     We weren't quite as organized but it was pretty crazy to see how many fish were just hanging out in the river.

We also had a campfire and learned how to make some toast.  It was a fun discovery.

Exit Glacier

On our way out of Seward we took a little detour to visit the Exit Glacier. We had read this was a good little hike with a view of the Glacier. I thought we would be able to get really close to it, but that was incorrect.  The craziest part was walking on the path and seeing markers for where the Glacier was at certain years.

In 2005 the Glacier was all the way down to this point.   It has receded a lot!   It will be crazy to see where it is 5 years from now.

RV life

Since it was raining quite a bit we spent some time in the RV.

We had some screen time and did some reading.

We also played some games and ate food.

We learned a new game called Uker.  The kids loved playing it.

Exploring Seward

The forecast for our 2nd day in Seward didn't look great with rain forecasted in the afternoon.

Brad and I got up early and walked into town to get some coffee and breakfast.  Then we went back to get everyone else.

We learned that Seward is the starting point for the Iditarod.

We walked around the shops and then when we got hungry we stopped for lunch.

Jeff & Tracey treated us to some gelato.

It was fun exploring an Alaskan town.
