Little Bighorn

After Devil's Tower we made our way into Montana.  We decided to stop at the Battlefield of Little Bighorn where Custer had his last stand.

It was a hot day so the kids were done walking around and learning about all the history.   Plus, knowing we are close to home has them a bit anxious about our return.

Close encounters

The KOA plays the movie Close Encounters of the Third Kind every night.
Brad was excited to watch it with the kids.  These are the kind of movies that I don’t like so I passed and instead cleaned dishes, did a load of laundry and some reading.

The kids thought it was good although Darby and Bo thought it was a little weird.

Tower Views

We made it to the top and took the trail that goes around the tower.  Our favorite part was finding the rock climbers and watching them.  We even joined a lady and her father-in-law who were watching her husband and his son rappel down the tower.

Bison Drama

Just up from our KOA is some land where we saw four bison and also some Longhorns.   Before we knew it we witnessed the Bison jumping over the fence and walking on the road.  Brad took the kids up there to check out the action.  The Bison were blocking the road so some workers from the KOA drove their golf carts up to try and corral them back to the area.   But since this wasn't KOA's land and the Bison had jumped over the fence it was hard to get them back to where they belonged.  After about 10 minutes of trying to corral them they ended up taking them into the KOA ranch.
All was good until about an hour later when one of the Bison wandered into the KOA campground.  He was right next to MARV and thankfully didn't do any damage to it.     It was quite a funny story to watch unfold.

Up to the tower

Brad really wanted to stay another night at Devil’s Tower so we asked if there was another site available.   We were happy they had one available but we did have to change sites.    We got the RV ready for driving and drove into the park.  The ranger told us there would be no RV parking at the Visitor's Center and we would have to park down below and hike a mile and a half up.
We parked MARV and started our hike.

Sunrise

We decided to try and watch the sunrise at Devil’s Tower.  Only Darby and Colt were up for the early morning adventure.

Colt and I took a timelapse of the sun on the tower.
