Well its time for me to once again pat myself on the back and give myself a blog post.
I knew I wanted to plan a race to get me back in shape after Bo. A friend asked if I wanted to do the Lake Sammamish Half the first weekend of March. It felt like it was too early and it also conflicted with Brad's coaching since it was on a saturday. Another friend asked about the Mercer Island Half, the 3rd weekend of March. I said no at first because I, again, thought it was too soon after a baby. But as I looked at the calendar there weren't too many other half marathons that were nearby and didn't conflict with track coaching. So I decided to sign up, that was back in December.
Let me tell you, the training was hard. But the hardest part was finding the time to train. A little sleep deprivation and a house full of 5 kids does not make it easy, but I did it. Often times I would wake up at 5:00 AM and I would just start running around my neighborhood. (Yes, mom it was cold & dark and not the safest thing) I also ran on the treadmill at the gym. I didn't get to all my training but I did enough to give me the confidence to start the race.
So here I am with Stacy, a friend who ran it with me (until mile 10 when she sped up and I slowed down).
Another fun part of this story is that I was a running model. Can't you tell?
A friend posted on facebook a need for a photographer that was building his
portfolio. (Nat Seymour, Be Athletic Pictures) His idea is a little different, in that he runs the whole race with you and takes thousands of pictures as you run.
So this is why there are lots of pictures of me running.
A few things I learned from looking at these pictures.
I have really thick hair. My pony tail looks really lose but it didn't bother me.
My body isn't perfect, post baby, but I don't look too bad in these pictures.
I have my dad's double chin. (won't that be nice in years to come?)
This was somewhere around Mile 10, when I started feeling it. It wasn't a surprise since I hadn't done too many long runs before. I knew I would make it but I also knew it wasn't going to be easy.
Less than 6 months after having Bo......
I finished!
I had fun (for the most part).
I did not set a PR but I was less than a minute from it.
Not too bad.
My official time was 1:50:27
He also created a video. You can click on the link below. (again, can't you tell I'm a model?)
